Art and the environment was the focus when Kiwitahi, Tauwhare and Ngati Haua Schools visited the Sculpture Park at Waitakaruru Arboretum recently. It was a beautiful, sunny day and about 60 students took part in hut building, seed bomb making and learning how a glass artist creates their sculptures.
There was also a special discovery of many baby skinks! Students and adults walked the 2 km long nature trail engaging with over 50 sculptures by different artists along the way. Students had an opportunity to sketch interesting plants and art, and try out the many interactive activities dotted around the park.
“Our students had an amazing experience today learning about the environment and different art. They got to learn from some great artists and do some fantastic hands on activities. Thanks to the wonderful people at the Waitakaruru Arboretum and Sculpture Park in Tauwhare” -Kiwitahi School.
