We need you!
The Government under the auspices of the Department of Conservation, the Ministry for the Environment and the Ministry of Education have agreed to refresh the 1998 Environmental Education Strategy. This represents an amazing opportunity for us to have input into the future direction of (what is being called for now) Environmental Education for Sustainability. A draft framework, and background document, (both attached) have been released for consultation until 5pm Monday 10 October.
We urge you to carefully read the consultation documentation and make a submission at http://www.doc.govt.nz/get-involved/have-your-say/all-consultations/2016/national-strategy-for-environmental-education-for-sustainability/have-your-say/ (even if it all looks OK to you). Submission numbers will count as an indicator of interest, so please get involved.
To help in this process, the NZ Association of Environmental Education (NZAEE) Waikato will hold a meeting to discuss the draft framework on Tuesday 12 Sept from 5.30-7pm at the Waikato Environment Centre in the Five Cross Roads shopping centre in Hamilton. Light refreshments will be provided. If you can’t attend but need advice on your submission, please feel free to contact Chris Eames at c.eames@waikato.ac.nz.
This may be the most important action you can take this year for the environment and sustainability – don’t miss the opportunity!
